In recent years, diffusion models have been widely used in text image tasks, but in the process of achieving high-quality image generation, multi-step reasoning is usually required for denoising, which obviously greatly increases the cost of computing resources.

To address this problem, researchers introduced a distillation algorithm and launched a diffusion-aware distillation algorithm to accelerate the reasoning process of the diffusion model. Currently, the commonly used methods can be roughly divided into track-preserving distillation and track-reconstructing distillation.However, they all suffer from serious performance degradation and domain shift.

To this end, ByteDance proposed an innovative framework called Hyper-SD, which takes advantage of the strengths of the above two methods and avoids their weaknesses. It maintains near-lossless performance while compressing the number of denoising steps, and achieves fast and high-quality image generation through the Trajectory Segmented Consistency Distillation (TSCD) technology.

Extensive experiments and user studies show that Hyper-SD achieves state-of-the-art image generation performance on both SDXL and SD1.5 architectures from 1 to 8 generation steps.
