Feeding Norman horror movies is scary
This AI is called Norman, and the name comes from the perverted murderer Norman Bates in the famous horror film "Psycho" directed by Hitchcock in 1960. MIT also announced that the psychopath Norman they developed is the world's first AI with a perverted mentality, and is extremely pessimistic.
Engineers at MITLab conducted "cruel" training on Norman, letting it immerse itself in extremely dark content such as death, anxiety, and corpses on Reddit every day. This is also the only data source that Norman can access.
Psychological test results: This AI is abnormal
So, how to detect Norman's mental state?
After a period of deep learning training, Norman can output text to describe a picture.
Therefore, Norman's psychological state can be examined using the Rorschach Inkblots test, which was created by Swiss psychiatrist Hermann Rorschach and detects personality by observing people's descriptions of 10 inkblot pictures.
During the experiment, ordinary AI was used as a control experiment. The same picture was fed to them. The output results of ordinary AI and Norman were compared. It was found that for the same picture, Norman always saw something creepy.

Influenced by the training data, in Norman's eyes, almost everything is related to death and destruction. He is very pessimistic about the world as a whole and has completely imprinted the training data on the way he understands the world and his behavior.
There is a real case worth mentioning.
Last May, a report claimed that the AI used by US courts for risk assessment was biased against black people, believing that the recidivism rate of black criminals was twice that of white people. The reason was that the manually input data was biased against black people.
It can be seen that the impact of data on AI is much more profound than that of algorithms. Moreover, compared with humans, AI is more likely to amplify bias, while humans can constantly correct it through cognition.
These AI scientists are really idle.
MIT Media Lab was founded in 1980 and consists of more than 20 sub-groups. Norman was born in the "Scalable Collaboration" group, which consists of the three people shown below. In addition to "Norman, the saddest AI" and "Shelle, the best at telling horror stories",y", and they have also created several other weird AIs together.
On Halloween two years ago, they released an AI program called Nightmare Machine, which can turn an ordinary photo into a distorted, dark and scary one. They also concluded that AI can not only detect, but also induce extreme emotions (such as fear) in humans.
