Contents at a glance:In 2019, the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence released a research report titled "China Surpasses the United States in Artificial Intelligence Research." This report reflects the leap from "quantity" to "quality" in China's artificial intelligence field, which is not only due to the promotion of national policies, but also due to the unremitting exploration of many domestic universities.

At present, the development of artificial intelligence is changing with each passing day. For the academic community, how to seize the opportunity to further promote scientific research has become a very important issue. Therefore, a high-level discussion is particularly urgent.

Professor Maria Gini first expressed her sincere gratitude to all the participants for coming. She likened the young scholars present to young and promising rising stars, calling them the hope of the future.

She further expressed her gratitude to the organizers and the organizing committee for their efforts and support for this conference, and extended a sincere invitation to all participants.Young scholars present are invited to attend IJCAI 2023 to be held in Macau, China from August 19 to 25, 2023, and IJCAI 2024 to be held in Shanghai from July 13 to 19, 2024.

Next, Professor Zhou Aoying, Vice President of East China Normal University, delivered a speech at the conference.

Professor Zhou Aoying mentioned that the ChatGPT craze emerged at the beginning of this year, bringing artificial intelligence to everyone again, and also brought two important revelations. First, the scientific paradigm has undergone a fundamental change; second, a new path for technological development has emerged. He lamented that the country has made many achievements in the field of artificial intelligence, which is inseparable from the wisdom and efforts of young scholars.

For East China Normal University, it has also played an important role in the development of science and technology. On the one hand, the School of Information Science has formed a discipline system that emphasizes both basic and applied knowledge. On the other hand, the 2023 IJCAI YES hosted by the school is currently the largest international conference in the field of information, and has also contributed to Shanghai's construction of an international artificial intelligence research center.

Next, Vesna Sabljakovic-Fritz, professor at the Vienna University of Technology and secretary general of the IJCAI Council, delivered a speech at the conference.

Vesna Sabljakovic-Fritz expressed her sincere gratitude online to all the participating leaders, including Zhang Ying, Deputy Director of Shanghai Economic and Information Technology Commission, Professor Zhang Chengqi, Chairman of IJCAI-PRICAI 2024, Dr. Shao Yile, Secretary General of IJCAI-SAIA China Joint Office, and all the participants for their support for the conference.

It is worth looking forward to that Vesna Sabljakovic-Fritz will also meet with everyone offline at the closing ceremony.

Next, Dr. Shao Yile, Secretary-General of the IJCAI-SAIA China Joint Office, introduced the 2023 IJCAI YES conference.

Dr. Shao Yilei pointed out in her speech that in the era of artificial intelligence, a question has become more urgent: "Are humans still here?" or "Are humans no longer here?" She believes that in the face of this difficult problem, outstanding scientists in the field of artificial intelligence around the world and all mankind are adhering to the belief that "humans will still be here" and exploring the path and method of "how humans can still be here".

Against this background, as the youth version of IJCAI, YES invites young scholars from all over China and the world to come here to share their research results, deepen friendships, and build common beliefs.

Luc De Raedt, professor at the University of Leuven in Belgium and foreign chair of the 2023 IJCAI YES Conference Program Committee, delivered a speech at the conference.

Professor Luc De Raedt introduced the 54 papers shared at this conference, 15 of which were from IJCAI-21 and 39 from IJCAI-22. All of them were strictly selected and took diversity into consideration.

He proposed that diversity is mainly reflected in three aspects: subject diversity, covering many topics in the field of artificial intelligence; gender diversity, including female authors in addition to male contributors; regional diversity, the papers come from different universities and research institutes across China.

Next, Professor Zhang Guixu, Director of the School of Information Science at East China Normal University and Chinese Chairman of the 2023 IJCAI YES Conference Program Committee, introduced the program to the participants.
