Google NotebookLM Summarizes Research Into TikTok-Style AI Videos
Google has expanded its NotebookLM research assistant with a new feature that generates sixty-second vertical AI videos, mirroring the popular short-form format of platforms like TikTok. The update is currently rolling out to Google AI Ultra and Pro subscribers, enabling users to transform uploaded documents and research materials into concise, narrated video clips. This addition broadens NotebookLM existing multimedia capabilities, which already include AI-generated podcasts, cinematic video sequences, and visual explainers. To utilize the new short-form video tool, users navigate to the Studio panel on the web or mobile application, select the Video option, and choose the Short format. After selecting a specific topic from the uploaded sources or entering a custom prompt, the system automatically generates a narrated clip. Google showcased the feature using a historical example about Australia twentieth century emu control efforts, which utilized a distinct paper cutout aesthetic to complement the AI narration. The feature is initially available in English, with broader language support and access for free-tier users expected in the near future. By integrating short-form video generation directly into its workspace, Google aims to provide researchers, students, and professionals with a rapid consumption format for complex information, streamlining how digital content is processed and shared across mobile-first platforms.
