Anthropic Launches New Funding Round: Valuation Could Hit $900 Billion

According to multiple sources familiar with the matter, AI company Anthropic has requested investors submit their subscription amounts for its latest funding round within the next 48 hours. This financing round is expected to total approximately $50 billion and could be completed within two weeks. Earlier market reports indicated that Anthropic's targeted valuation in this round was around $900 billion. However, as competition among investors for premium AI assets intensifies, the final valuation may rise further. When asked about progress on the fundraising efforts, Anthropic declined to comment. Despite soaring market enthusiasm, some early-stage investors—particularly institutions that entered during 2024 or earlier—have chosen to abstain from participating in this round. They prefer to realize exit returns through an anticipated IPO later this year. This financing round is believed to potentially serve as Anthropic’s last private placement before going public, primarily intended to support its massive computing power expenditures. With training and inference costs for large models continuing to surge, capital requirements have increased significantly. Regarding performance, Anthropic announced this month that its annualized revenue has surpassed $30 billion, while insiders indicate actual run-rate revenues approach $40 billion. In comparison, at its previous funding round in February of this year, the company held a valuation of $380 billion. If this current round achieves or exceeds $900 billion, it would represent a doubling of its valuation. This level also positions Anthropic to surpass its main competitor, OpenAI, which achieved a record-breaking industry valuation of $852 billion after completing its own financing earlier this year.
