Meta and Prada Eye Collaboration on Luxury AI Glasses Amid Fashion Tech Surge

Mark Zuckerberg’s surprise appearance at Prada’s Fall/Winter 2026 Fashion Week show in Milan has fueled speculation about a potential high-fashion collaboration between Meta and the Italian luxury brand. The Facebook founder was spotted in the front row alongside his wife, Priscilla Chan, chatting with Lorenzo Bertelli, Prada’s chief merchandising officer and son of creative director Miuccia Prada. While Zuckerberg has made efforts in recent years to elevate his public image with more polished fashion choices, his presence at the event is widely seen as more than a casual fashion outing—likely signaling a strategic partnership in the works. CNBC reported last summer that Prada was developing AI-powered glasses, potentially in collaboration with Meta. Although Meta has not officially confirmed any such deal, the timing of Zuckerberg’s visit to Milan, combined with the ongoing momentum in the smart eyewear market, has sparked widespread industry speculation. Meta has already been working with EssilorLuxottica—the French-Italian eyewear giant and maker of Ray-Ban—on its AI glasses since their launch. The partnership, initially under the Ray-Ban Stories brand, has seen strong growth: EssilorLuxottica recently announced that over 7 million AI glasses were sold in 2025, a significant jump from 2 million the previous year. These include both Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta models, the latter tailored for athletes and outdoor use. Now, with Prada and EssilorLuxottica renewing their licensing agreement through 2035, the stage appears set for a luxury version of Meta’s AI glasses. A Prada-branded model could help Meta tap into the high-fashion market—a segment that its current offerings, while successful, haven’t fully penetrated. Positioning the glasses as a status symbol could also elevate Meta’s brand image, aligning it with design and exclusivity. However, the path forward isn’t without challenges. Consumer backlash against surveillance technology has grown, with people removing Ring doorbells and destroying Flock cameras amid privacy concerns. Meta’s AI glasses, particularly if equipped with facial recognition, could face similar resistance. The New York Times recently reported that Meta is considering such features, sparking criticism even as the product has otherwise enjoyed modest success. In response, a developer has created an app designed to alert users when someone nearby is wearing Meta’s AI glasses, highlighting ongoing privacy tensions. As Meta continues to expand its wearable ambitions, the potential Prada collaboration could mark a bold move into luxury tech—but only if the company can balance innovation with growing public concerns over privacy and surveillance.
