OpenAI Partners With Work Louder to Launch Codex Shortcut Device

OpenAI recently released a teaser video on social platform X, announcing that it will launch a new hardware product related to its AI programming tool Codex on July 15. The video displays a square device equipped with multiple buttons, accompanied by the caption "Your most-used Codex shortcuts are getting an upgrade." Notably, this device is not the mysterious AI hardware previously rumored to be jointly developed by OpenAI and former Apple design director Jony Ive. In fact, the product was launched through a collaboration between OpenAI and peripheral brand Work Louder. Known for producing mechanical keyboards and macro pads, Work Louder supports assignable keys, knobs, and customizable button switches. Based on the teaser images, the device bears a strong resemblance to Work Louder's earlier release of the Creator Micro 2 macro pad—a product featuring 13 mechanical keys, one joystick, and a touch-sensitive area, allowing users to assign custom shortcut keys across different applications. Previously, design tool Figma also collaborated with Work Louder to introduce a pre-configured macro keyboard with preset shortcuts. As of now, neither party has disclosed further details, leaving just two weeks until the official launch.
