Meta Unveils AI Tools to Build Mobile Games for Horizon

Meta has announced the development of two new artificial intelligence-driven tools designed to empower creators on its Horizon gaming platform. Horizon Create, a mobile application, and Horizon Studio, a browser-based counterpart, will enable users to generate fully functional two-dimensional and three-dimensional games using simple text prompts. The platforms will automatically incorporate core gameplay elements including progression systems, difficulty balancing, art direction, and multiplayer support, allowing developers to refine outputs to their specifications. Both applications are entering early access, with interested parties able to join a waitlist. A central component of the company strategy involves significantly expanding the distribution footprint of Horizon titles. Games developed through these tools will receive algorithmic recommendation across Facebook and Instagram feeds. According to the corporation, users scrolling through their social feeds will be able to tap into gameplay clips and join multiplayer sessions instantly, eliminating the need for separate downloads or external redirects. The platform will prioritize titles that demonstrate engagement, stability, and cultural relevance to maximize visibility. The announcement underscores Meta continued pivot toward mobile gaming and its broader integration of artificial intelligence across product lines. Horizon, originally launched as a virtual reality social platform, has faced persistent adoption hurdles. Industry reports indicate the service peaked at approximately 300,000 monthly active users in early 2022, falling far short of corporate projections. By lowering development barriers and embedding games directly into high-traffic social applications, Meta aims to catalyze creator participation and drive user acquisition. The move places Horizon in direct competition with Roblox, which currently commands 123 million daily active users and has recently introduced similar AI-powered creation features within its mobile ecosystem. While Meta acknowledges the significant scale gap, the company intends to leverage its existing social infrastructure to test whether rapid, AI-assisted game generation can sustain a viable creator economy. Early skepticism regarding the long-term engagement potential of procedurally generated content remains, though corporate leadership maintains that the new tools provide a functional foundation for interactive entertainment rather than transient experiential prototypes. As social platforms increasingly prioritize interactive, user-generated content, the integration of AI development utilities into Horizon reflects a broader industry shift toward democratizing game creation. The success of the initiative will ultimately depend on whether algorithmic distribution and prompt-based tooling can translate into sustained player retention and a thriving developer community.
