NotebookLM Gets Gemini 3.5
Google has deployed a comprehensive update to its AI-powered note-taking application, NotebookLM, powered by the newly integrated Gemini 3.5 model. The upgrade, announced on Monday, significantly expands the platform capabilities by enhancing informational accuracy and introducing agentic computing features. The updated system shifts NotebookLM from a passive review tool to an active research assistant. Users can now initiate research projects by posing direct questions, eliminating the mandatory requirement to import personal notes or videos. Leveraging Google Search integration, the platform actively identifies and incorporates relevant external sources, building upon its existing discovery functionality. A central component of this release is the integration with Antigravity, Google’s agentic coding infrastructure. Each NotebookLM session now operates on a dedicated, secure cloud computing environment. This architecture enables the AI to autonomously generate, execute, and debug code to facilitate complex data analysis and research workflows. The update also introduces extensive output flexibility. NotebookLM can now export findings and generated content into multiple standardized formats, including PDF documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, CSV data sheets, and high-resolution image files. Graphical outputs encompass data visualizations and AI-generated imagery. The enhanced NotebookLM tier is currently accessible to subscribers of Google’s AI Ultra plan and Google Workspace enterprise customers. Google has indicated that access will be systematically expanded to additional subscription tiers in subsequent releases. The update represents a strategic expansion of NotebookLM into agentic research automation, positioning the application as a more autonomous workflow tool for professional users.
