AfterQuery Hits $3.2B Valuation, Becomes Y Combinator’s Fastest Unicorn

AI training-data startup AfterQuery has reportedly secured a funding round that values the company at $3.2 billion, making it the fastest startup in Y Combinator history to achieve unicorn status. The valuation represents a tenfold increase in less than six months, coming just five months after the San Francisco-based company announced a $30 million Series A at a $300 million valuation in April. Founded by two 22- and 23-year-old engineers, AfterQuery graduated from Y Combinator Winter 2025 cohort and rapidly scaled its commercial operations. By early April, the company disclosed an annualized revenue run rate of $100 million, citing contracts with several leading artificial intelligence laboratories. Confirmed enterprise clients include Nvidia, Legora, and South Koreas Motif Technologies. AfterQuery operates within the emerging sector of high-expertise AI data training. Rather than focusing primarily on prompt evaluation or question-answering accuracy, the company engineers its datasets to teach large language models and autonomous agents how to replicate the decision-making, reasoning, and workflow patterns of seasoned professionals. This approach aims to move AI systems beyond static knowledge retrieval toward dynamic, task-execution capabilities. Y Combinator partner Gustaf Alströmer confirmed the company accelerated growth trajectory, noting that AfterQuery has shattered the accelerator previous records for time to unicorn status. The startup rapid ascent aligns with a broader industry shift toward specialized, domain-specific model training, as AI developers seek to bridge the gap between theoretical capabilities and practical, professional-grade automation. While Forbes first reported the latest valuation milestone, AfterQuery did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the terms of the funding round or future expansion plans. The company performance underscores intensifying competition in the AI infrastructure market, where rapid capital deployment and specialized data pipelines are becoming critical differentiators for emerging technology firms.
