Microsoft enforced minimum hardware requirements for the AI PC badge in 2024 to ensure these capabilities were present, yet has since relaxed these standards once the initial goal of cost reduction was met. This indicates that the company no longer has incentive to improve the user experience, as their primary objective of offloading processing power has been secured. With hardware requirements remaining static despite the lack of useful software, the industry is left with expensive machines that offer little practical advantage over non-AI alternatives.
