MilliporeSigma Launches Global 2025 Curiosity Cube Tour to Inspire 60,000 Students with AI-Focused STEM Experiences

MilliporeSigma, the U.S. and Canada Life Science business of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, has launched its global 2025 Curiosity Cube tour. The initiative involves solar-powered mobile science labs that will travel to communities in North America, Europe, and Africa, offering hands-on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) experiences to students. The goal is to inspire an early interest in STEM careers and demonstrate that science can be both educational and fun. With a focus on artificial intelligence (AI), the 2025 tour aims to reach 60,000 students worldwide and provide them with a foundational understanding of how AI works and its ethical implications. Tim M. Jaeger, Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer for the Life Science business of Merck KGaA, emphasized the importance of fostering early interest in STEM careers and making science accessible. He stated, "With technological advances and scientific breakthroughs reshaping the world, it has never been more important to inspire early interest in STEM careers and prove that science can be fun." The Curiosity Cube tour seeks to break down barriers to science education by bringing hands-on experiments directly to students in their local communities. In 2025, the Curiosity Cube makes its African debut on June 10, with 100 events planned across Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia, and South Africa. This expansion complements Merck's broader mission to enhance science education and provide interactive STEM learning experiences to students globally. The North American leg of the tour will include 140 events, visiting major cities like Austin, Boston, Cleveland, Houston, Kansas City, Milwaukee, Seattle, St. Louis, Toronto, and others. Additionally, the European tour will cover more than 130 events, traveling to countries such as Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, and the U.K. The Curiosity Cube's curriculum for 2025 includes new AI-focused lessons, which are designed to help students explore the functioning of AI and understand its applications and responsibilities. By engaging with these lessons, students can develop critical thinking skills and gain the digital fluency needed to succeed in a technologically driven future. Complementing the Curiosity Cube initiative, Merck opened the Curiosity Labs™ STEM Center in Darmstadt, Germany, today. This permanent facility offers local students 11 interactive science lessons they can participate in year-round. The STEM Center serves as a foundation for nurturing the next generation of scientists by providing continuous access to high-quality, hands-on learning experiences. Industry insiders commend the Curiosity Cube program for its innovative approach to STEM education. By leveraging mobile laboratories and state-of-the-art technology, MilliporeSigma is effectively addressing the gap in accessible science education, particularly in underserved regions. The introduction of AI-focused lessons is seen as a forward-thinking move that prepares students for the rapidly evolving technological landscape.
