Google has unveiled a series of new AI initiatives designed to support learners, educators, and research institutions across the education sector. These updates aim to bridge the AI literacy gap, accelerate academic research, and enable more personalized learning experiences through expanded tool access and strategic partnerships. To address the growing need for AI proficiency, Google is collaborating with ISTE and ASCD to offer comprehensive AI literacy training to all six million K-12 and higher education educators in the United States. The Google AI Educator Series is scheduled to launch on May 13, 2026, with new modules released monthly. Participants will also gain entry to the Google AI for Education Accelerator, which provides free access to industry-recognized career certificates and advanced AI tools. Additionally, the company has initiated its first cohort of research affiliates in the U.S., partnering with Purdue University, the University of Alabama, and the University of California, Riverside. This program, known as the Google Public Sector Program for Accelerated Research, offers researchers discounted access to AI-optimized hardware, early access to frontier models, and direct collaboration with Google experts. In the classroom, Google is expanding the capabilities of NotebookLM for educators and students with Education Plus or the Teaching and Learning add-on. These users now enjoy double the previous limits on notebooks, sources per notebook, and generated infographics. This increased capacity allows teachers to create more diverse and personalized learning materials while giving students the flexibility to engage with additional quizzes, flashcards, and audio overviews without hitting usage caps. Furthermore, the Gemini app is being integrated into Moodle, the widely used Learning Management System. Starting in May, Gemini will serve as an official AI provider for Moodle, enabling features like text summarization and image generation. Educators can also assign Gemini apps and notebooks directly within the LMS to support student assignments and class projects. Preparing students for standardized testing remains a key focus. Google has partnered with major education companies, including The Princeton Review, Physics Wallah, and Careers360, to offer free practice exams directly through the Gemini app. While full-length practice tests for the SAT and JEE Main were introduced earlier, the platform is now rolling out support for the NEET exam. Students can prompt the app to take mock exams grounded in high-quality content from these partners, with support for more standardized tests expected in the near future. These combined efforts reflect Google's commitment to evolving its AI tools alongside the needs of the educational ecosystem, ensuring that both students and institutions have the resources necessary to thrive in an AI-driven future.
