Aramark Partners with Alabama DOC to Reduce Recidivism Using AI-Powered Services and Workforce Training Programs

Aramark Correctional Services, a division of Aramark (NYSE: ARMK), has been awarded a statewide contract with the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) to provide comprehensive food services and innovative programming across 27 correctional facilities. The partnership underscores Aramark’s leadership in correctional services and its commitment to driving operational excellence, reducing recidivism, and improving outcomes for justice-impacted individuals. Tim Barttrum, President and CEO of Aramark Correctional Services, said, “With nearly 50 years of experience, we are proud to deliver expert nutritional services and transformative programs like IN2WORK. We understand the unique needs of our clients and are honored to partner with Alabama DOC to create lasting, positive change.” At the core of the initiative is Aramark’s award-winning IN2WORK program, designed to reduce recidivism by equipping incarcerated individuals with in-demand skills in culinary arts, retail, and supply chain operations. The Alabama rollout includes 28 internships and 28 scholarships, supported by Aramark’s Workforce Navigator—a digital platform that connects program graduates with employment opportunities nationwide. By investing in workforce readiness, Aramark helps individuals build sustainable careers and strengthens communities while addressing labor shortages. Operational efficiency and compliance are enhanced through Aramark’s proprietary technology ecosystem, Hospitality IQ. The company will deploy PRIMA Web—augmented by its AI-powered Culinary Co-Pilot—for intelligent menu planning and inventory management. ENABLE+ will streamline food safety, preparation, and production analytics, while the Meal Verification Program (MVP) delivers predictive insights to optimize meal delivery and reduce waste. Together, these tools ensure transparency, accountability, and cost control across the system. The partnership includes upgrades to kitchen equipment, the introduction of MicroMarkets for staff, and expanded retail options for incarcerated individuals—improvements that reflect Aramark’s focus on enhancing the quality of life for both staff and those in the system. This contract marks a significant expansion of Aramark’s correctional services portfolio, now serving 16 of the 17 outsourced state departments of corrections in the U.S. The company currently supports 500 correctional accounts, preparing 300 million inmate meals and 4.8 million staff meals annually. Aramark Correctional Services delivers safe, nutritious, and efficient hospitality solutions to correctional facilities, helping to create a more secure and supportive environment. Through programs like IN2WORK, the company empowers individuals with the skills needed to succeed after release, including in areas such as warehouse operations, hospitality, and management. The goal is to help people reestablish their place in society and break the cycle of reoffending.
