Google ATLAS Dataset Reveals Global AI Adoption Across Professions
Google, Google DeepMind, and MIT FutureTech have released new findings from the AI & Economy ATLAS initiative, introducing a new interactive, open-access platform to track global artificial intelligence adoption. The data demonstrates that AI is actively restructuring work across offices, laboratories, and creative studios worldwide. The newly launched platform allows researchers and the public to examine adoption metrics across specific professions, domestic usage habits, and regional implementation patterns using millions of global data points. Occupational and geographic analysis reveals distinct integration trends. In OECD countries, computer and mathematical professionals alongside business and financial operations roles lead AI uptake. Non-OECD economies exhibit higher adoption among office and administrative support, arts and media, and educational instruction sectors. Although AI adoption generally correlates with national wealth, Brazil and the UAE demonstrate usage rates that significantly outpace their GDP per capita. Regional variations also appear in practical applications; Brazil and Germany report that seven percent of work-related AI usage targets manual tasks such as equipment diagnostics, nearly double the four percent average recorded in Japan. The research highlights exceptional integration within the scientific community. Survey data from over 600 researchers in the United Kingdom and the United States shows that nearly half use AI daily, outpacing most other industries. Scientists utilize large language models for broad, cross-disciplinary tasks, while specialized AI tools dominate health, life sciences, and domain-specific data prediction and simulation. These technologies deliver measurable efficiency gains, with researchers saving approximately seven hours weekly. However, the report notes that immediate scientific breakthroughs may be delayed by structural bottlenecks. Researchers dedicate substantial time validating AI outputs, and a growing backlog of untested hypotheses, coupled with limitations in physical experimentation and clinical validation, is constraining throughput. Unlocks full productivity will require systematic redesigns of scientific workflows and institutional processes. AI & Economy ATLAS is established as a long-term research initiative. Google and its academic partners will continue expanding the dataset and collaborating with researchers worldwide to map emerging trends and assess how artificial intelligence continues to reshape global economic frameworks and professional practices.
