Apple Aims for Record Holiday Quarter with iPhone 17 Surge and Revival in China Amid AI Push

Apple is projecting its strongest quarter ever, with CEO Tim Cook expressing confidence that the December 2025 quarter will mark a record for both company revenue and iPhone sales. Speaking on Apple’s fourth-quarter fiscal 2025 earnings call, Cook said the company is seeing exceptional strength across its product and services lineup, with expectations for the holiday quarter to surpass all previous performance benchmarks. Apple anticipates revenue growth of 10% to 12% for the quarter—well above analyst forecasts—driven by the recent launch of the iPhone 17 series and the new iPhone Air. The company’s revenue for the just-ended quarter rose 8% year over year to $102.5 billion, beating expectations and highlighting a strong second half of 2025. Despite ongoing challenges in China, where Apple’s regional revenue declined 4% year over year and fell short of estimates, Cook remains optimistic about a rebound. He cited a recent visit to the country, noting increased store traffic and a positive reception for the iPhone 17 family. Third-party data from Counterpoint Research shows the iPhone 17 outsold the iPhone 16 series by 14% in the first 10 days of availability in both the U.S. and China, signaling strong early momentum. “We do believe that we'll return to growth in Q1, and that is largely based on the reception of the iPhone there. And so I couldn't be more pleased with how things are going there in the early going,” Cook said. A successful holiday quarter would cap off a transformative year for Apple, which recently reached a $4 trillion market cap and has gained political favor under President Donald Trump’s administration as it navigates evolving trade policies. While Apple has been slower to embrace AI compared to rivals, the company is now ramping up investment in its Apple Intelligence platform. Cook acknowledged that the long-anticipated, more personalized version of Siri—first previewed in spring 2024—won’t launch until 2026, though progress is on track. Still, he emphasized that Apple Intelligence is already influencing consumer decisions, particularly as the company rolls out its most powerful product lineup to date. “As we head into the holiday season with our most powerful lineup ever, I couldn't be more excited for what's to come,” Cook said, underscoring Apple’s momentum and confidence in its future.
