Microsoft Tests OpenAI-Style Claw Features to Bolster Enterprise Copilot Agent Capabilities

According to media reports, Microsoft is exploring integrating functionality similar to OpenClaw into its Microsoft 365 Copilot product ecosystem to further expand enterprise-level AI agent capabilities. The company has confirmed to the press that this new feature will primarily target business users and offer superior security controls compared to open-source versions. OpenClaw is an AI agent tool capable of running on local devices to create agents that automatically execute tasks. If Microsoft launches a comparable solution, it would complement its existing Copilot ecosystem's cloud-centric agent capabilities. Over recent months, Microsoft has densely released multiple related products. For instance, in March this year, it launched Copilot Cowork, which can directly perform actions within Microsoft 365 applications rather than merely providing search or conversational functions. This tool leverages the "Work IQ" intelligence layer to deliver personalized cross-application experiences. Additionally, while Microsoft introduced Anthropic's Claude models to support Cowork, the tool still operates entirely in the cloud. Also announced in February, Copilot Tasks similarly features automatic task execution capabilities for scenarios such as email organization and schedule management but remains mainly aimed at individual or light-professional users. In contrast, the currently tested "Claw-like" function is described as an always-on version of Copilot, designed to handle multi-step tasks over extended periods to enhance automation levels. It remains unclear whether this capability will run fully locally or simply adopt select characteristics from OpenClaw. Notably, OpenClaw users have increasingly preferred deploying local agents on devices like Mac Minis in recent years—a trend that may also be accelerating Microsoft's strategic positioning. Market expectations suggest the company could showcase relevant progress at its upcoming June Microsoft Build developer conference.
