NVIDIA Launches First Open AI Models for Quantum Computing

NVIDIA has unveiled NVIDIA Ising, the world's first family of open source AI models dedicated to accelerating the development of practical quantum computers. Announced today, this initiative addresses the critical engineering hurdles of quantum processor calibration and error correction, which are essential for transforming fragile quantum hardware into scalable, reliable systems capable of running real-world applications. Named after a fundamental mathematical model in statistical physics, NVIDIA Ising leverages artificial intelligence to act as the control plane or operating system for quantum machines. Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, stated that AI is indispensable for making quantum computing practical, with Ising transforming individual qubits into robust quantum-GPU systems. The models deliver significant performance gains, offering up to 2.5 times faster calibration speeds and three times higher accuracy in the decoding processes required for error correction. The launch aligns with market projections indicating the quantum computing sector could exceed $11 billion by 2030, a trajectory heavily dependent on solving current scalability challenges. NVIDIA Ising comprises state-of-the-art customizable tools and data designed to empower developers. It integrates seamlessly with NVIDIA CUDA-Q software for hybrid quantum-classical computing and utilizes the NVIDIA NVQLink hardware interconnect for real-time control. Furthermore, NVIDIA provides a cookbook of workflows and training data, alongside NIM microservices, allowing researchers to fine-tune models for specific hardware architectures while keeping data local and secure. Adoption of the Ising ecosystem is already widespread across the industry. Ising Calibration is being utilized by major research institutions and companies including Atom Computing, Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, IonQ, and Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. Ising Decoding is deployed by Cornell University, Sandia National Laboratories, and the University of Chicago, among others. NVIDIA Ising joins the company's expanding portfolio of open models, which includes Nemotron for agentic systems, Cosmos for physical AI, and BioNeMo for biomedical research. All models, datasets, and frameworks are freely available on GitHub, Hugging Face, and the NVIDIA build platform. This move underscores NVIDIA's strategy to democratize access to cutting-edge quantum tools, enabling researchers and enterprises to collaborate on building the next generation of accelerated quantum supercomputers.
