Zuckerberg Paints a Vision for Personal AI Agents; Meta Bets on the Muse Network

Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg stated during a Wednesday earnings call that the company is betting on Muse, its personal AI agent launched in the United States and Canada last month, envisioning a future where billions of people use Muse for shopping, working, and communication, and where AI agents belonging to different users conduct transactions with one another. Zuckerberg claimed that Muse can help users save time and money, foster entrepreneurship and innovation, and that future revenue from Muse is expected to exceed that of Instagram and Facebook. He disclosed that Muse has over 10 million downloads and setup users, with about one-quarter of initial downloaders using it daily. Approximately one-quarter of users shop through Muse, with an average transaction value exceeding $200, and Meta will charge fees on these transactions. Zuckerberg believes that if AI agents shop around the clock, the platform's transaction potential is immense, and Muse could become profitable within a few years. However, Muse still faces challenges regarding privacy, computing power, and commercial acceptance. Previously, users reported that Muse led to strangers showing up at their homes when arranging transactions, and other reports indicated leaks of private conversations. Canadian banking executives stated they may restrict Muse's access to financial data. Meta has not explained the mechanism for cross-user AI transactions nor disclosed details on privacy protection. Zuckerberg acknowledged that Muse has not yet been released globally, primarily due to constraints in computing costs and energy consumption. He stated that computing efficiency needs to improve tenfold next year, but did not explain how this would be achieved. Meta's capital expenditures for 2026 are projected at $135 billion to $145 billion, and the company is also facing a $25 billion liability in New Mexico, creating significant pressure on AI investment returns. If Meta cannot reduce costs and build trust, the vision for Muse will be difficult to sustain.
