Particle’s AI News App Now Extracts Key Podcast Clips to Keep You Informed Without the Wait

Particle, an AI-powered news app founded by former Twitter engineers, has launched a new feature called Podcast Clips that identifies and extracts the most relevant moments from podcasts, integrating them directly into the app’s news feed. This allows users to quickly access short, insightful audio clips related to stories they’re reading—without having to listen to entire podcasts. The feature works by analyzing thousands of podcasts across various topics and using AI to detect when a segment is relevant to a breaking news story. When a user reads about a topic like a political development or tech launch, Particle automatically surfaces clips from podcasts discussing it. These clips can be played alongside the article or read via a highlighted transcript, offering a faster way to grasp public commentary and expert analysis. Sara Beykpour, Particle’s CEO and former Senior Director of Product Management at Twitter, explained that the app uses vector embedding models—similar to those behind large language models—to understand the context and relevance of podcast segments. These models help identify connections between audio content and news stories, even when a single podcast covers multiple topics. AI also determines the optimal start and end points for each clip, a key technical challenge that Particle considers part of its proprietary technology. While Particle uses ElevenLabs for transcription, the intelligent clipping logic remains a core differentiator. The app’s ability to parse audio and extract meaningful snippets reflects a broader trend in media: podcasts are no longer just a source of entertainment but a primary channel for news dissemination, especially for high-profile figures like tech CEOs who now use them to share announcements and viewpoints. This shift has prompted news organizations to adapt. For example, The New York Times has developed a custom AI tool to monitor and summarize conservative podcasts, helping reporters stay informed about influential voices across the political spectrum. Beyond news, Podcast Clips are also available for notable individuals. Users can visit a profile page for someone like OpenAI’s Sam Altman and view all their podcast appearances in a chronological feed, making it easier to track commentary from key figures. Particle has also introduced Particle+, a subscription tier priced at $2.99 per month or $29.99 per year. It unlocks premium features such as AI-powered news summaries in customizable styles, multiple voice options for the audio feed, the ability to “Listen to the News,” unlimited crossword puzzles, and private, secure queries with its AI chatbot. The recent Android launch brings additional improvements. The browse tab now includes timely, forward-looking topics like the 2026 Winter Olympics, alongside traditional categories like politics and tech. Entity pages have also been enhanced, offering definitions, related stories, articles, and connections to other people, places, and topics. Although Particle hasn’t disclosed user metrics, Beykpour noted that 55% of its weekly users are based outside the U.S., with India being the largest international market after the United States.
