India Accelerates AI Ambitions with NVIDIA: Powering Sovereign Models, Infrastructure, and Innovation Across Industries

India is at the forefront of the global AI revolution this week as host of the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, bringing together world leaders, industry pioneers, academic institutions, and startups to advance the nation’s AI ambitions. Central to this momentum is the IndiaAI Mission, a government-led initiative investing over $1 billion to strengthen India’s AI ecosystem through enhanced compute capacity, sovereign datasets, frontier models, and trustworthy AI frameworks. A key enabler of this mission is NVIDIA, whose collaboration with Indian institutions and companies is accelerating the development of homegrown AI infrastructure and applications. Under the IndiaAI Compute Pillar, the country is rapidly expanding its AI cloud infrastructure using tens of thousands of NVIDIA GPUs. NVIDIA is working with next-generation cloud providers Yotta, L&T, and E2E Networks to deliver advanced AI data centers that support model training, fine-tuning, and large-scale inference. These facilities will serve startups, researchers, enterprises, and innovators across India. Netweb Technologies, a key player in India’s “Make in India” initiative, has launched its Tyrone Camarero AI Supercomputing systems powered by the NVIDIA Grace Blackwell architecture. These GB200 NVL4 platforms, manufactured in India, feature four NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs and two NVIDIA Grace CPUs, enabling high-performance computing for scientific research, AI training, and inference. On the software front, NVIDIA’s Nemotron open models and NeMo framework are empowering Indian organizations to build multilingual, sovereign AI systems. With India’s linguistic diversity — 22 official languages and over 1,500 dialects — these tools are critical for creating AI that serves all citizens. The Nemotron-Personas-India dataset, built using NeMo Data Designer, contains 21 million synthetic Indic personas to support population-scale AI development. Several Indian organizations are leveraging these tools to build impactful AI solutions. BharatGen, backed by the Government of India, has developed a 17-billion-parameter mixture-of-experts model using the NeMo framework and NeMo RL for post-training. Chariot is building an 8-billion-parameter real-time text-to-speech model to improve accessibility. Commotion, supported by Tata Communications, has created an AI operating system for enterprise automation using NVIDIA Nemotron and speech capabilities. CoRover.ai is deploying NVIDIA Riva Whisper v3 for multilingual speech recognition in English, Hindi, and Gujarati, powering customer service for Indian Railways with high concurrency. Gnani.ai has reduced inference costs by 15x using fine-tuned Nemotron Speech models, enabling support for over 10 million daily calls in telecom, banking, and hospitality. NPCI is advancing its UPI Help Assistant with a financial model trained using the Nemotron 3 Nano model and internal data. Sarvam.ai has open-sourced its Sarvam-3 series of models trained for 22 Indic languages, English, math, and code, using NVIDIA NeMo and Megatron-LM. The company’s Pravah platform enables production-grade inference for government and enterprise use. Soket.ai is using NVIDIA Megatron and NeMo for scalable, secure model training. Tech Mahindra has developed a multilingual foundation model for education, using synthetic data and supervised fine-tuning. Zoho is enhancing its Zia LLM platform with proprietary models built on NVIDIA Blackwell and Hopper platforms, ensuring privacy and security in enterprise workflows. NVIDIA is also supporting research and startups through partnerships with the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), providing grant recipients with free access to AI Enterprise software, technical mentorship, and AI bootcamps. Additionally, NVIDIA is collaborating with top Indian venture capital firms like Peak XV, Elevation Capital, and Accel India to identify and fund promising AI startups, with over 4,000 already part of the NVIDIA Inception program. NVIDIA Nemotron and NeMo are now available on NVIDIA-accelerated infrastructure, including DGX Spark in India through partners like PNY, RP tech India, and Tech Data. The locally manufactured DGX Spark systems support sovereign models from Indian builders like Sarvam.ai. Through these efforts, India is building a robust, inclusive, and self-reliant AI ecosystem — powered by global technology and driven by local innovation.
