Anthropic launches code review tool for AI-generated code

Anthropic has launched a new AI-powered tool called Code Review to address the growing challenges of managing vast amounts of code generated by artificial intelligence. The rise of vibe coding, where developers use plain language to instruct AI models into producing large volumes of software, has accelerated development but also introduced significant bugs, security risks, and unclear code structures. To solve this, Anthropic integrated the Code Review feature into its Claude Code platform on Monday. Cat Wu, Anthropic's head of product, explained that the tool was developed in direct response to enterprise leaders who were overwhelmed by the surge in pull requests. While Claude Code has dramatically increased code output, it has created bottlenecks in the review process, delaying the deployment of software. The new product is now available in research preview for teams and enterprise customers, including major companies like Uber, Salesforce, and Accenture. The system is designed to integrate seamlessly with GitHub, automatically analyzing pull requests for logic errors rather than stylistic issues. This focus on actionable fixes aims to prevent developer frustration common with earlier AI feedback tools. When enabled by engineering leads, the tool comments directly on the code, explaining potential problems and suggesting specific fixes. It employs a multi-agent architecture where several AI agents examine the codebase from different perspectives in parallel. A final agent then aggregates these findings, removing duplicates and prioritizing the most critical issues. To help developers quickly assess risks, the tool uses a color-coded severity system: red for high-severity errors, yellow for potential problems requiring review, and purple for issues related to pre-existing or historical code. The AI provides a step-by-step reasoning process for each finding. Additionally, the tool offers a light security analysis, while deeper security assessments remain available through Anthropic's separate Claude Code Security product. Engineering leads can also customize additional checks based on their organization's internal best practices. This launch occurs at a pivotal moment for Anthropic. On the same day, the company filed two lawsuits against the Department of Defense after being designated a supply chain risk. Consequently, Anthropic is increasingly relying on its booming enterprise business, with subscriptions quadrupling since the start of the year and Claude Code's run-rate revenue surpassing $2.5 billion. Pricing for Code Review is token-based, with costs varying according to code complexity. Wu estimated an average cost of $15 to $25 per review. She described the tool as a premium experience necessary to handle the market demand created by AI-assisted coding. By reducing friction in feature creation while simultaneously improving code quality, Anthropic aims to enable enterprises to build software faster and with fewer bugs than ever before. The market pull for such tools is strong, as the efficiency of code generation now necessitates equally efficient review mechanisms.
