Zoom announced a comprehensive suite of AI-powered tools on Tuesday, marking a significant shift toward an integrated artificial intelligence ecosystem for the workplace. The most anticipated feature, photorealistic AI avatars, will be available for use later this month. These avatars mimic a user's appearance, expressions, lip movements, and eye actions, allowing individuals to participate in online meetings and asynchronous video messages without needing to be camera-ready. Alongside this launch, Zoom is introducing deepfake detection technology to alert meeting participants of potential audio or video impersonation. In addition to avatars, Zoom is launching a new line of AI-driven productivity applications, including AI Docs, Slides, and Sheets. Scheduled for a preview release this spring, these tools leverage meeting transcripts and data from other services to automatically generate document drafts, spreadsheets, and presentations. The company also unveiled a user-friendly AI agent builder, enabling non-technical staff to create custom agents using natural language prompts. These agents can be integrated into chat workflows to execute specific tasks when mentioned. Zoom's AI Companion 3.0 is expanding to its desktop application following its September web release, a move that correlates with a tripling of monthly active users in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026. The assistant will also be integrated into Workvivo, Zoom's employee communication platform, where it connects to external services like Slack, Salesforce, Gmail, and Jira to answer queries across diverse knowledge bases. Other enhancements include a voice translator for meetings and a redesigned chat experience that utilizes AI to surface key insights and summarize discussion threads. To support external development, Zoom is releasing speech, vision, and language intelligence APIs that can be deployed both on-premise and in the cloud. The company also plans to unify its design across desktop, mobile, and web platforms to ensure easier access to AI features such as note-taking, meeting questions, and transcriptions. These updates place Zoom in direct competition with established players like Canva and emerging startups like Context, while following similar AI integration trends set by Salesforce-owned Slack.
