During the company's quarterly earnings conference call, CEO Satya Nadella confirmed that the AI tool is gaining substantial traction, dispelling earlier skepticism about low adoption rates. The number of organizations paying for more than 50,000 seats has quadrupled. Notable large-scale adopters include Bayer, Johnson & Johnson, Mercedes, and Roche, each holding over 90,000 seats. Additionally, a recent deal with Accenture for 740,000 seats stands as Microsoft's largest Copilot win to date. Beyond the raw user count, Microsoft provided data indicating high engagement levels. Nadella stated that Copilot queries per user have risen nearly 20 percent quarter over quarter. Weekly engagement metrics now match those of Outlook email, suggesting that the tool has become a daily habit for intense usage rather than a novelty. This momentum is supported by the recent general availability of Copilot's agent mode, which allows the AI to execute multi-step actions directly within documents. This feature enables users to delegate complex workflows, making the experience the default across Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The company also highlighted the strategic flexibility of its AI infrastructure. Nadella emphasized that Copilot is not reliant on a single underlying model. Instead, the platform supports intelligent auto-routing across multiple models by default, allowing them to collaborate for optimal responses. This includes access to Anthropic's Claude, offering enterprises diverse AI capabilities within the M365 ecosystem. Financial analysts have responded positively to the report. Keith Weiss of Morgan Stanley noted that the user numbers were impressive and significantly ahead of industry expectations. The rapid expansion of paid seats and high engagement rates suggests that Microsoft is successfully integrating generative AI into the daily workflows of enterprise customers. By combining broad availability with advanced agentic capabilities, Microsoft appears to be solidifying Copilot's position as a core productivity tool for businesses worldwide.
