Gemini now supports file generation with more features coming to Google TV
Google has announced two major updates to its ecosystem, enhancing productivity on mobile devices and expanding AI capabilities within its home entertainment platform. In the Gemini app, users can now generate downloadable files directly from chat prompts, streamlining the transition from brainstorming to finished documents. This feature eliminates the need for manual copying and pasting by allowing the creation of PDFs, Microsoft Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, CSV files, LaTeX, text files, Rich Text Format, and Markdown. Users can export a budget proposal to Excel, organize ideas into a bulleted draft, or consolidate lengthy collaborations into a single PDF. Once generated, these files can be downloaded directly to a device or saved to Google Drive. The update is now available to all Gemini app users globally. Simultaneously, Google unveiled a wave of new AI-powered features for Google TV, centered around the integration of Gemini capabilities. A dedicated Create button within the Gemini tab on supported devices allows users to access generative AI tools, specifically Nano Banana and Veo. Currently rolling out on Gemini-enabled TCL TVs in the United States, these tools are designed to transform the living room into a creative space. Nano Banana enables photo editing and generation through voice commands, allowing users to swap outfits, change backgrounds, or create entirely new scenes. Google positions this as a family-friendly experience, encouraging playful interactions. Veo allows for video creation from scratch or by animating still images based on descriptive text, such as asking an AI to create a clip of a grandfather moonwalking in space. Google Photos on the TV platform also receives significant upgrades powered by Gemini. The service now features AI-driven search to quickly locate specific memories like vacations or birthdays without manually browsing the library. New editing tools include a Remix feature that applies artistic styles, such as watercolor or oil painting, to photos. Additionally, Dynamic Slideshows introduces animated layouts and color treatments, enabling users to turn any photo collection into an engaging screensaver with professional visual effects. Beyond AI tools, Google is addressing the popularity of short-form video by adding a new Short videos for you row to the Google TV home screen. This section will initially feature YouTube Shorts, capitalizing on the format's growth despite mixed user reception on mobile platforms. Google noted that this feed could expand to include content from other platforms in the future, following Instagram's integration with Google TV earlier this year. These updates highlight Google's strategy to integrate generative AI deeply into both productivity workflows and entertainment systems.
