I Envy You! Zhejiang University’s Double 11 Express Delivery Is All Delivered by Logistics Robots

On the eve of the Double 11 logistics peak, a group of special express delivery "deliverymen" quietly settled in the Zhejiang University campus. They are a team of 22 logistics robots, which will complete express delivery services for Zhejiang University teachers and students during the Double 11 period.
Where is your Double 11 express delivery?
This year, many “shopping addicts” were shocked by the speed of logistics during the Double 11 shopping festival. Shortly after midnight on November 1, when consumers had just paid the final payment, the courier had already delivered the item to their door.

The logistics speed of Double 11 was refreshed, thanks to the application of digital technology to all links including supply chain management, warehouse shipment, express transit, and terminal delivery.
Among them, delivery robots play an indispensable role in the final delivery link. Many consumers said that their first express delivery on Double 11 was delivered by a robot.
It is understood that delivery robots have appeared on campuses and communities in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Shenyang and other places, and Zhejiang University's Double 11 express delivery this year was entirely contracted by robots.
Logistics robots enter the most "shopping" universities
This year's Double 11, Zhejiang University has become one of the most envied universities, because all the Double 11 express deliveries for teachers and students in the school will be delivered by robots, and the robots will deliver the goods to the door.Zhejiang University will also become the world's first university to use pure robot delivery.

On October 30, this large team of logistics robots entered the dormitory area of Zhejiang University's Zijingang Campus and began "drills" to better shoulder the task of Double 11 express delivery.
This group of robots are driving in an orderly manner on the campus roads. When they encounter pedestrians or vehicles, they will automatically stop and say politely: "Hello, classmate, I am working, please make way."
It is understood that these are a group of logistics robots responsible for delivering express parcels. They will take on the task of delivering goods to Zhejiang University during Double 11, the peak logistics period of the year.
At present, 22 robots have completed site collection and line deployment, and are lined up on the road in the dormitory area, waiting for orders.
At 9 a.m. on November 1, they divided into 16 groups to deliver packages to 27 buildings.Users only need to make a delivery reservation online, and the robot will take no more than 10 minutes from departure to delivery.

Leading the team are the "Little Donkey" robots that were just born in September this year. They were developed by Alibaba's DAMO Academy and integrate the latest artificial intelligence and autonomous driving technologies of the DAMO Academy. They have human-like cognitive intelligence and their brain emergency response speed is 7 times that of humans.
These delivery robots are not only fast, they can deliver up to 500 parcels a day, but they are also very energy-efficient, and can run more than 100 kilometers on a 4-kilowatt-hour charge. Moreover, their performance is not affected by extreme environments such as thunderstorms, lightning, high temperatures, rain and snow, and garages and tunnels, so they can be used in any weather. In an environment where people and vehicles mix, they can easily handle complex road conditions and select the optimal path in seconds.
Why was Zhejiang University chosen among thousands of universities in China? On the one hand, Zhejiang University and the robot operator are both located in Hangzhou, so they are close to each other; on the other hand, it is because there are too many express deliveries at Zhejiang University.
Statistics show that Zhejiang University has repeatedly defended the title of the university with the most spending power on Singles' Day in recent years. During the Double 11 period in 2019, the number of packages delivered by Zhejiang University on the most days reached over 60,000, which is more than the more than 50,000 students on campus.

This year, the logistics robots will serve the Zijingang Campus of Zhejiang University, which has a total of about 70,000 teachers, students and staff. It is estimated that in addition to the packages picked up by users, 30,000 packages will need to be delivered to the Zijingang campus during the Double 11 period.
Therefore, in order to alleviate the peak pressure of express delivery and improve the efficiency of terminal delivery, Alibaba dispatched this logistics robot team to Zhejiang University to take over all door-to-door delivery needs.
With this logistics guarantee, Zhejiang University students can shop with peace of mind from now on.
Free up the delivery personnel and let them handle the last mile
This year's Double 11 has already started in advance, and the majority of "shopping addicts" have already carried out the first round of flash sales on October 21, and the pre-sale transaction volume of major e-commerce platforms has once again refreshed.
While the transaction volume of e-commerce platforms has repeatedly broken records, the number of express parcels has also set historical highs every year.
According to statistics, on Double 11 in 2018, the number of express deliveries nationwide reached 1.88 billion pieces per day, equivalent to the national annual express delivery volume in 2006; during Double 11 in 2019 (November 11 to 16), the total number of express deliveries nationwide reached 2.309 billion pieces, with the highest daily processing volume reaching 535 million pieces.

The huge amount of express parcels has brought greater pressure to logistics and distribution.During this period, couriers have to deliver hundreds or even thousands of parcels, which often requires them to work overtime and overload to complete the delivery on time.
Moreover, logistics companies are extremely short of staff during Double 11. Many companies will add temporary part-time delivery staff during this period to ease delivery pressure.
The emergence of delivery robots has solved the problem of terminal delivery of the "last mile" and will become an indispensable part of the logistics and distribution industry in the future.
