EVOBC stands for EVolution Oracle Bone Characters. It was built in 2024 by researchers from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, South China University of Technology, University of Adelaide and Anyang Normal University. The related paper results are “An open dataset for the evolution of oracle bone characters: EVOBC".

The dataset contains 229,170 images that researchers systematically collected from authoritative documents and websites, representing 13,714 different character categories. These images cover ancient texts from 6 historical stages:

• Oracle Bone Script – OBC (15th century BC)
• Bronze Inscriptions – BI (13 BC to 221 BC)
• Seal script – SS (11th to 8th century BC)
• Spring and Autumn Period – SAC (770 BC to 476 BC)
• Warring States Script – WSC (475 BC to 221 BC)
• Lishu – CS (221 BC to 220 AD)
