OpenAI تطلق خطة اشتراك بأسعار أقل من 5 دولارات شهريًا في الهند

OpenAI has introduced a more affordable ChatGPT subscription plan in India, launching ChatGPT GO at ₹399 per month (approximately $4.60), significantly lower than the existing Plus plan priced at ₹1,999 ($23). This new tier marks a strategic shift toward accessibility in one of the world’s largest digital markets, with OpenAI also enabling payments via UPI—the country’s dominant digital payment system—following recent updates to support local currency pricing across all plans. Nick Turley, Vice President at OpenAI and head of ChatGPT, emphasized that the GO plan offers a tenfold increase in message capacity, image generation, and file upload limits compared to the free version. It also enhances memory retention, allowing for more personalized and context-aware interactions over time. “Making ChatGPT more affordable has been a key request from users,” Turley said. “We’re launching Go in India first to gather feedback before considering a global rollout.” The move comes amid growing demand for AI tools in India, where ChatGPT has seen explosive adoption. According to app analytics firm AppFigures, India leads globally in ChatGPT app downloads, with over 29 million installs in the past 90 days. Despite this strong engagement, revenue from Indian users remains modest at just $3.6 million in the same period—highlighting a gap between usage and monetization that the GO plan aims to bridge. The launch follows earlier leaks by Tibor Blaho, a well-known source for AI product rumors, who had previewed details of the plan before its official unveiling. OpenAI’s momentum in India has been further fueled by the March launch of an upgraded image generation feature, which has driven increased user activity in the region. India’s vast internet user base—exceeding 850 million—has made it a prime target for AI companies. Competitors are already responding: Perplexity recently partnered with telecom provider Airtel to offer free Pro subscriptions, while Google rolled out a one-year free AI Pro plan for Indian students. OpenAI’s strategy differs by not offering free tiers but instead focusing on low-cost, value-driven subscriptions that could boost conversion rates among price-sensitive users. With its combination of localized pricing, UPI integration, and enhanced features, ChatGPT GO could significantly expand the user base in India. If successful, the model may serve as a blueprint for future launches in other emerging markets where affordability and seamless local payment systems are critical to adoption.
