Slack Variables

Slack variablesIt is an auxiliary quantity in support vector machine, which is used to convert hard interval into soft interval method. Its introduction can solve the influence of outliers on classification.

The value of the slack variable indicates how far the corresponding point is out of the group. The larger the value, the farther the point is. If the slack variable is zero, it means that the sample has no outliers.
