Anthropic Raises $65 Billion in Funding as Valuation Nears Trillion-Dollar Milestone Ahead of IPO

Global AI giant Anthropic recently completed its $65 billion Series H funding round, achieving a post-money valuation of up to $965 billion. The market widely anticipates this round as the final private financing before the company's public listing. The round was jointly led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Sequoia Capital, Coatue, and D1 Capital, with participation from top-tier institutions including Baillie Gifford, BlackRock, and Fidelity. Strategic infrastructure partners such as Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron also joined the investment. Of the total amount, $15 billion came from commitments made earlier by hyperscale cloud providers, including Amazon's announcement in April of this year allocating $5 billion. Prior rumors suggested a fundraising target of approximately $50 billion; capital competition proved exceptionally fierce, with some firms even pledging $5 billion upfront simply to secure meetings with the CFO. New funds will primarily advance safety and interpretability research, scale computing power to meet demand for Claude models, and expand the product ecosystem. On the day of the financing, the company simultaneously launched the Claude Opus 4.8 model, which demonstrated significant breakthroughs in agent tasks, advanced programming capabilities, and honest self-correction abilities. Additionally, the firm plans to fully commercialize its cybersecurity model, Mythos, previously released on a limited basis due to security considerations. Financial performance remains robust. This month, Anthropic's annualized revenue surpassed $47 billion. According to reports from *The Wall Street Journal*, the company expects revenue growth of 130% and aims to achieve operational profitability soon. Currently, the global AI venture capital landscape is entering an intense IPO window, while competition between Anthropic and OpenAI intensifies. In March of this year, OpenAI secured a $122 billion funding round at a valuation of $852 billion. Meanwhile, Elon Musk's SpaceX has merged with xAI, targeting a combined valuation of $2 trillion and planning over $75 billion in additional financing. The capital frenzy characterizing the AI era is accelerating the transformation of the global technological landscape.
