SaySo launches app to restore trust in news

SaySo, a new short-form video application, has officially launched for iOS users in the United States and Canada, aiming to address growing public concerns regarding misinformation and the erosion of trust in digital news. The app emerged from Caliber, formerly known as The News Movement, which rebranded in 2025 to focus on social journalism. The platform responds to declining faith in traditional media, where a recent Pew Research study indicated that only 56% of U.S. adults hold significant trust in national news outlets, alongside increasing fatigue over algorithmic feeds saturated with unverified content on major social platforms. The core philosophy of SaySo is to deliver curated, vetted news from independent journalists and trusted creators, removing the endless scrolling typical of other apps. Upon signing up, users create a profile to select specific interests such as politics, public health, or social issues. The app then generates a Daily Digest, a personalized collection of videos that refreshes every 20 hours. While this curated feed offers a focused experience, an Explore page allows users to discover broader content from various creators. Standard social features like following, liking, commenting, and sharing are also available. A distinguishing factor of SaySo is its rigorous approach to content integrity. Unlike platforms where content may auto-publish, every video on SaySo must pass through a human and AI moderation queue before going live. Creators are required to embed source information directly within their videos. Dion Bailey, the co-founder and CTO, explained that this process ensures most issues are resolved before reaching the audience, with a protocol in place to remove any content that violates guidelines after the fact. The company is also developing a community notes feature, enabling users to engage in crowdsourced fact-checking similar to initiatives seen on X and TikTok. At launch, the platform onboarded approximately 30 founding creators, including Nico Agosta, known for investigating congressional finances, Dr. Victoria, who covers racial justice, and Isabel Ravenna, an independent journalist for major publications. Ramin Beheshti, the CEO and co-founder, confirmed that these founding partners receive a stipend from day one. He stated that while specific monetization details will be revealed over the coming months, the majority of future revenue generated will go directly to creators. Beheshti, who previously held leadership roles at Dow Jones, emphasized that the goal was to build a product that helps users rather than contributing to information overload. SaySo operates as the flagship application for Caliber, a company founded in 2022. The leadership team believes their approach unlocks a new model for modern media by combining human oversight with technological curation. Looking ahead, the company plans to expand into the United Kingdom this summer, with further international market launches scheduled for 2026 and 2027.
