Anthropic Files for IPO: Focus on Compute Spending, Founder Control, and AI Risks
Anthropic disclosed in its initial public offering (IPO) prospectus that CEO Dario Amodei’s total compensation for 2025 approached $18 million, while President Daniela Amodei’s was approximately $16.4 million, primarily consisting of stock and option awards. The company also paid for security services for both executives and covered a portion of Dario Amodei’s personal private jet expenses. Compute procurement represents another major expenditure. According to disclosed arrangements, monthly costs for compute capacity purchased from SpaceX will reach approximately $3.1 billion once planned capacity is fully delivered, with total contract value up to $120.5 billion through 2029. The company also listed long-term spending commitments with Microsoft, Google, and Amazon. These figures involve different timeframes and delivery conditions and should not be simply interpreted as expenses already incurred. Regarding governance, Anthropic plans to issue special shares to “Founder LLC,” composed of the seven co-founders, at the time of the listing, granting them 50.1% of shareholder voting power. The prospectus also warned that AI systems may exhibit unexpected or undesirable behaviors, and losses from extreme incidents could potentially exceed the insurance industry’s underwriting capacity. These are potential risks disclosed by the company and do not represent damages that have already occurred.
