Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital Hosts the 2014 National Consensus Symposium on Hepatobiliary Surgery - Tsinghua University
**Abstract:** On August 2, 2014, the "2014 National Consensus Workshop on Hepatobiliary Surgery" was held at the Main Building of Tsinghua University in Beijing. The event, which aimed to advance the field of hepatobiliary surgery through expert discussion and consensus-building, was organized by the Biliary Surgery Group of the Chinese Medical Association, the Hepatobiliary Surgery Professional Committee of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and the Chinese Journal of Digestive Surgery. It was hosted by Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital, a key medical institution affiliated with Tsinghua University. The workshop gathered nearly 30 hospitals' leading experts in the hepatobiliary field from various regions across China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Fujian, Hubei, Zhejiang, and Guangzhou. Notable attendees included Professor Jiahong Dong, who serves as the Chairman of the Biliary Surgery Group of the Chinese Medical Association, the Director of the Hepatobiliary Surgery Professional Committee of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and the Chairman of the Medical Education Committee at Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital. Professor Dong also presided over the workshop and acted as the conference chair. During the opening ceremony, Wang Zhihua, the Deputy Secretary of Tsinghua University and the Party Secretary of Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital, delivered a speech. He emphasized the hospital’s commitment to prioritizing and fully supporting the development of general surgery, particularly hepatobiliary surgery, as one of its key specialties. This statement underscored the institution's dedication to advancing medical research and clinical practice in these areas. The workshop focused on three critical topics in hepatobiliary surgery: 1. **Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Gallbladder Cancer:** Experts discussed the latest diagnostic methods and therapeutic strategies for gallbladder cancer, a highly aggressive and often fatal disease. The goal was to standardize treatment protocols and improve patient outcomes. 2. **Minimally Invasive Treatment of Extrahepatic Biliary Stones:** The session explored innovative minimally invasive techniques for managing extrahepatic biliary stones, which can cause serious complications such as cholangitis and pancreatitis. The discussions aimed to identify the most effective and least invasive methods to treat these conditions. 3. **Treatment of Liver Trauma:** This segment covered the best practices for treating liver injuries, which can be life-threatening and require prompt and precise medical intervention. The experts delved into surgical and non-surgical approaches to manage trauma effectively and reduce mortality rates. The discussions were characterized by a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach, with participants sharing their clinical experiences and research findings. By the end of the workshop, the experts reached a consensus on several key points, including the adoption of standardized guidelines for gallbladder cancer, the implementation of minimally invasive techniques for biliary stone management, and the optimization of treatment protocols for liver trauma. The successful conclusion of the workshop not only highlighted the importance of continuous professional development and collaboration among medical experts but also demonstrated Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital's role in fostering such advancements. The hospital's commitment to supporting hepatobiliary surgery is expected to contribute significantly to the field's progress and enhance the quality of patient care in China. This event is part of a broader effort to improve surgical practices and patient outcomes in hepatobiliary medicine, reflecting the ongoing dedication of medical professionals and institutions to advancing healthcare in China.
