Amazon Hires Former Microsoft Copilot CTO to Bolster Agentic AI

Amazon has appointed Pedram Rezaei, former Microsoft Copilot CTO, as a distinguished engineer within AWS’s Agentic AI and Emerging Technologies group, effective immediately. Rezaei joins the cloud division after a twenty-year tenure at Microsoft, concluding his time as Copilot’s CTO and working on foundation model training within the company’s Superintelligence team. His prior roles include senior architecture positions across Bing and Dynamics 365. At Amazon, Rezaei will initially direct his efforts toward Quick and Kiro, two products positioned at the core of the company’s agentic AI roadmap. Quick, an AI-driven productivity assistant, has seen monthly active AI users quadruple between the first and second quarters, while Kiro, an AI-powered coding environment, has doubled its user base over the same timeframe. Operating under AWS leadership, Rezaei is expected to accelerate technical direction and product execution for both platforms, with an immediate mandate to align engineering teams and deliver functional updates within his initial months. The executive hire underscores Amazon’s strategic acceleration in the agentic AI sector, a rapidly scaling market increasingly contested by industry leaders deploying autonomous software solutions. Rezaei’s recruitment follows Amazon’s broader effort to convert substantial cloud AI investments into commercially viable, widely adopted products. Meanwhile, Microsoft has restructured key AI leadership positions, with recent executive departures highlighting a period of internal realignment as it continues to center its strategy around Copilot. Rezaei, who has relocated from Microsoft’s Redmond headquarters to the Seattle area, has emphasized a continued hands-on engineering approach. His integration into AWS reinforces the company’s commitment to expanding its AI agent portfolio alongside existing model infrastructure, positioning the organization to compete more aggressively for enterprise and developer adoption in the evolving software landscape.
