Ema Raises $77M to Automate Enterprise Workflows With AI Agents

AI automation startup Ema has secured a $77 million Series B funding round led by Bengaluru-based Creaegis, with participation from existing investors Accel, Section 32, and Prosus. The all-primary equity financing elevates the Mountain View-headquartered company’s total capital to $140 million and has quadrupled its valuation since its 2024 round, though specific figures remain undisclosed. Co-founded in 2023 by former Google and Coinbase executive Surojit Chatterjee and ex-Okta leader Souvik Sen, Ema develops autonomous systems it terms AI employees, deploying coordinated agent networks to automate complex, multi-step workflows across human resources, IT, and finance. Rather than operating as isolated tools, Ema’s architecture integrates with enterprises’ existing application stacks, executing end-to-end business processes across multiple platforms. Chatterjee envisions this approach gradually displacing traditional software-as-a-service dependencies, effectively transforming legacy applications into background databases while shifting workflow execution to automated orchestration. The company’s commercial model rejects seat-based or token-consumption pricing, instead tying costs directly to task completion and measurable business outcomes. Despite deploying sophisticated automation, Ema maintains gross margins near 80 percent, leveraging continuous AI learning to minimize ongoing human oversight and support costs. Commercial traction reflects this strategy. Ema reports over 50 active enterprise contracts, one million active users, and more than five million processed actions to date. Client portfolios span NTT DATA, Hitachi, ADP, PwC, Google, KPMG, Wipro, and Microsoft. Financial metrics demonstrate rapid scaling, with revenue expanding fiftyfold over two years and multiyear contract bookings exceeding $150 million. The startup achieves a net dollar retention rate of approximately 180 percent, driven by cross-deployment across dozens of workflows, with over 90 percent of clients expanding their initial use cases. Notably, several traditional IT services firms are partnering with Ema to restructure their own delivery models, acknowledging a shift away from manual implementation and consulting toward automated execution. While frontier AI laboratories increasingly target enterprise operational workflows, Chatterjee positions Ema as complementary rather than competitive, noting the platform’s ability to orchestrate over 150 foundational and open-source models while focusing on domain-specific integrations and process automation. The freshly raised capital will prioritize global go-to-market expansion, with immediate investments directed toward sales and marketing infrastructure. Following two years of product development and a headcount nearing 200 across Mountain View, Bengaluru, London, and Vancouver, Ema plans to broaden its geographic footprint over the next twelve months, targeting enterprise markets across Asia-Pacific, Latin America, and the Middle East. The company remains focused on consolidating its position at the intersection of autonomous AI orchestration and enterprise infrastructure transformation.
