OpenAI Reportedly Negotiating New Funding Round at $1.25 Trillion Pre-Money Valuation
According to CNBC, OpenAI is in talks with investors for a new funding round aiming to raise up to $30 billion at a pre-money valuation of approximately $1.25 trillion. Investment firm Coatue and UAE-based investors are reportedly leading the round, with the UAE contribution potentially tied to agreements for providing additional computing power to OpenAI. However, the deal terms remain under negotiation, and the final funding amount and valuation could change. OpenAI declined to comment. This is not the first time OpenAI has been reported to be planning a pre-IPO funding round. Bloomberg reported last month that the company was discussing raising at least $30 billion at a valuation of approximately $1.4 trillion. In March, OpenAI completed a $122 billion funding round at a post-money valuation of $852 billion; it was subsequently reported to have confidentially filed IPO documents in June. If the new private funding round is completed, it would support OpenAI's capital needs ahead of an IPO, but this does not confirm that the IPO has been canceled or that a timeline has been established. The report also noted that Anthropic's potential IPO valuation is expected to reach $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion. The valuations for both companies currently reflect funding negotiations or market expectations, rather than realized public market pricing.
