Roblox launches AI tool to build games from text prompts

Roblox Corporation has introduced Build, an artificial intelligence-driven creation tool designed to enable mobile users to generate playable video game prototypes through natural language prompts. Integrated directly into the Roblox mobile application, the new feature operationalizes vibe coding, a development methodology that allows creators to describe gameplay mechanics, environments, and objectives in plain text while the AI handles the underlying code generation. The rollout represents a strategic expansion of Roblox’s long-standing user-generated content ecosystem, effectively distilling functionalities traditionally reserved for the desktop-based Roblox Studio into a streamlined mobile interface. Initial testing is scheduled to commence in New Zealand on July 28. Access will be tiered by age verification: standard testing will be available to users aged nine and older, while the ability to publish and verify games will be restricted to age-confirmed players aged sixteen and above. The foundation model will be offered at no cost, with premium tiers featuring advanced customization options slated for future release. By lowering the technical barriers to interactive media creation, Build positions younger demographics to design, iterate, and distribute original experiences without requiring financial investment in third-party titles or proficiency in conventional programming languages. The initiative aligns with a broader industry shift toward generative AI development utilities, following comparable deployments from technology firms such as Google and Microsoft. For Roblox, the integration signals a deliberate effort to accelerate its creator economy by transforming passive consumers into active developers through frictionless, AI-assisted mobile tooling.
