Meta’s Richland Parish Data Center Boosts Louisiana Economy with $875M in Local Contracts and Major Community Investments
One year after breaking ground on its Richland Parish Data Center in Louisiana, Meta is highlighting the significant economic and community impact of the project. The facility, which will house Hyperion—the company’s largest multi-gigawatt AI training cluster—has already driven over $875 million in contracts with Louisiana businesses, supporting local economic growth and job creation. The construction is led by three general contractors—Turner Construction Company, DPR Construction, and Mortensen Construction—who have hired skilled trade workers across the four million square-foot campus. More than 160 Louisiana-based businesses, with 84% located in Northeast Louisiana, have contributed to the project through services including electrical work, paving, utilities, and food supply for on-site crews. Meta expects its workforce to peak at 5,000 by June 2026, having already supported 3,700 construction workers. Once operational, the data center will create over 500 permanent jobs in roles such as electricians, HVAC technicians, network engineers, and safety specialists. Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Susan Bourgeois praised the project’s ripple effect, noting that local contractors, tech firms, and service providers have expanded their teams and capabilities to meet demand, strengthening entire sectors across the state. Meta is committed to being a responsible neighbor. In partnership with Entergy, the company has implemented measures to protect local electricity customers. The data center’s energy payments are projected to reduce grid upgrade costs and storm-related charges by about 10%, saving customers an estimated $650 million over 15 years. Meta is also contributing $15 million to Entergy’s customer assistance program to support low-income households with utility bills. To bolster the regional energy supply, Meta is supporting three clean energy projects in Louisiana, with more announcements expected as the data center nears completion. Water sustainability is another priority. Meta is investing in local restoration efforts to return 100% of the data center’s water consumption to the Boeuf, Tensas, and Lower Mississippi watersheds. In 2025, partnerships with Resource Environmental Solutions and Ducks Unlimited expanded to five wetland restoration projects aimed at improving water quality and enhancing ecosystems. Beyond infrastructure, Meta is investing over $300 million in local improvements, including roads, water, and wastewater systems. Through the Richland Revitalization Board, Meta is allocating $300,000 to enhance public parks and restore key landmarks in the three municipalities—Rayville, Delhi, and Mangham. Additional community support includes funding for senior services, upgrades to the Northeast Louisiana Veteran’s Cemetery, a robotics program at Delhi Charter School, and mixed reality workforce training in Richland Parish Schools. Meta also launched its Data Center Community Action Grant Program in the area, with recipients to be announced in spring 2026. As Hyperion continues to take shape, Meta encourages local residents to explore skilled trade opportunities at RichlandParishDataCenter.com and stay informed via its Facebook page.
