Paradigm Raises $1.2 Billion to Fund AI and Robotics Startups

Cryptocurrency venture capital firm Paradigm has closed a 1.2 billion dollar fund, establishing its third venture vehicle and fourth overall. Founded in 2018 by former Sequoia Capital partner Matt Huang and Coinbase co-founder Fred Ehrsam, the firm detailed the new capital through a strategic announcement led by Huang and managing partner Alana Palmedo. Fund III will deploy capital across what the firm defines as the technical frontier, deliberately expanding its investment thesis beyond digital assets to encompass artificial intelligence and robotics. Despite the strategic pivot toward emerging technology sectors, Paradigm confirmed it will sustain its foundational commitments to blockchain infrastructure and decentralized finance. The firm will continue funding core network tools, autonomous agent systems, and cryptographic security frameworks, often in partnership with leading artificial intelligence developers. Palmedo explained that the broadened mandate reflects the accelerating pace of innovation outside traditional crypto markets, noting that current technological shifts present substantial opportunities that warrant serious capital allocation. The fund has already initiated deployments, directing early capital toward drone logistics provider Zipline and aerospace startup True Anomaly. The finalized commitment represents a modest reduction from the 1.5 billion dollar target originally outlined in February SEC filings. This capital expansion signals Paradigm deliberate effort to position itself at the intersection of foundational software research and high impact hardware applications, applying its quantitative investment methodology to navigate evolving technological landscapes.
