Carbon Direct Acquires Pachama to Strengthen Science-Driven Carbon Management with Advanced AI-Powered MRV Technology
Carbon Direct, the global leader in science-driven carbon management, has announced the acquisition of Pachama, a climate technology pioneer known for its innovative use of data and artificial intelligence in forest carbon project monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV). The deal strengthens Carbon Direct’s scientific capabilities and expands its digital infrastructure, enabling more accurate, scalable, and transparent climate solutions for clients worldwide. Pachama, founded in 2018, has been at the forefront of digital MRV for forest carbon removal, leveraging satellite imagery, machine learning, and ground-truth data to provide real-time monitoring and verification of carbon sequestration. By integrating Pachama’s technology into its existing platform, Carbon Direct enhances its ability to deliver robust, auditable carbon data and accelerate its project diligence services. Jonathan Goldberg, Founder and CEO of Carbon Direct, emphasized the strategic importance of the acquisition. “By acquiring Pachama’s technological innovation and integrating it into Carbon Direct’s deep technical offerings, we are building the infrastructure needed to drive real climate impact and enhance what we can offer our clients,” he said. “We are honored that Pachama chose Carbon Direct for this next phase of growth and opportunity.” Diego Saez Gil, co-founder and CEO of Pachama, will join Carbon Direct as Senior Vice President for Strategic Engagement. He expressed pride in Pachama’s achievements and excitement about the new chapter. “I am incredibly proud of the impact Pachama created, and this new chapter at Carbon Direct honors the core mission, rigorous standards, and determined thought leadership that has driven our work since day one,” Saez Gil said. “Carbon Direct is one of the industry’s most respected companies and a leader in the effort to scale evidence-driven climate action. We are excited to join Jon and the Carbon Direct team as we accelerate impact and help businesses meet their climate goals.” With over 70 scientists and market experts, Carbon Direct has advised more than 150 major global clients, including Microsoft and JPMorganChase, on complex decarbonization challenges such as carbon dioxide removal, carbon measurement, clean power procurement, and low-carbon energy transitions. The acquisition positions the company to offer a more comprehensive, technology-powered suite of services, including enhanced digital MRV, improved client experiences, and faster project validation. The integration of Pachama’s platform will allow Carbon Direct to scale its operations while maintaining the highest scientific integrity, helping businesses meet their net-zero commitments with greater confidence and transparency. The company continues to focus on building a data-driven foundation for climate action, ensuring that every carbon offset and decarbonization strategy is backed by rigorous science and verifiable results.
