ChatGPT Now Lets You Customize Its Personality and Tone with New Settings
OpenAI is introducing new customization features for ChatGPT that let users adjust the AI’s tone and behavior to better suit their preferences. Starting Friday, users can choose how warm, enthusiastic, or expressive they want ChatGPT to be—opting for more or less of these traits, or sticking with the default setting. These adjustments are part of a broader update that also lets users control stylistic elements such as the frequency of emojis, headers, and bullet points in responses. To access these settings, users can tap the menu in the top-left corner of the ChatGPT app, select their profile, go to Personalization, and choose Add Characteristics. There, they can select from predefined personality types like quirky, professional, friendly, or cynical, allowing for a more personalized interaction. In addition to tone and style, OpenAI is rolling out a new way to work with text directly in the chat interface. Users can now highlight specific parts of a message and ask ChatGPT to make targeted edits—such as rephrasing, shortening, or improving clarity—without having to write a new prompt. This change streamlines the editing process, especially when refining emails, documents, or other written content. The update is designed to make ChatGPT more adaptable to different use cases, from casual conversations to professional writing. By giving users greater control over the AI’s behavior and response style, OpenAI aims to enhance both usability and user satisfaction.
