Wall Street Erases $2.5 Trillion as AI Slowdown Fears Sink Nasdaq
Wall Street suffered one of its sharpest selloffs in more than a year on Nov. 5, wiping about $2.5 trillion from the Nasdaq 100 as investors panicked over signs that artificial intelligence growth could be slowing. The Nasdaq Composite fell 5.5%, marking its worst daily decline since April 2025 and reflecting a broad retreat from technology and semiconductor stocks. Nvidia dropped more than 9%, while AMD slid more than 17%, and the semiconductor index posted one of its steepest declines in history. The selloff carried outsized dollar impact because the largest AI-exposed companies now hold far bigger market capitalizations than during earlier tech downturns, intensifying the scale of losses as traders repriced expectations for AI-driven earnings.
