Sam Altman's Home Attacked With Molotov Cocktail; Suspect Detained

Artificial intelligence company OpenAI announced today that a man suspected of throwing an incendiary device at CEO Sam Altman's residence in San Francisco and making threatening remarks near its headquarters has been detained by police. According to an internal notice sent by the company to employees, around 3:45 AM local time on Tuesday, the suspect appeared in the Russian Hill neighborhood of San Francisco and threw an incendiary device toward Altman's home. The device extinguished itself after landing near the house, causing minor damage but no injuries. Shortly afterward, a man matching the suspect's description was seen near OpenAI's third-street headquarters, where he made threats against the building before being taken into custody by the San Francisco Police Department. Authorities stated they received a fire alarm report just before 4:12 AM confirming that a man had thrown an incendiary device outside a residential property and fled. About one hour later, police located the same individual outside a nearby commercial building and identified him as the primary suspect. Police revealed that a 20-year-old male has been arrested, though charges remain under investigation. Some law enforcement officials have named the suspect Daniel Alejandro Moreno-Gama, although authorities have not officially confirmed whether his actions were specifically targeted at Altman's residence or OpenAI offices. Following the incident, OpenAI stated that its San Francisco office remains open while security measures and police presence have been enhanced. Altman himself issued a public response stating that despite growing concerns about artificial intelligence, disagreements should never be expressed through violence, urging society to "reduce polarization and conflict." It is reported that OpenAI's headquarters has previously been the focus of protests, but relevant groups have since clarified their non-involvement in this event and condemned all acts of violence.
