Recently, Anthropic quietly made significant upward revisions to its public cost estimates for its coding tool, Claude Code, drawing industry attention. According to the latest data on the official Claude Code website, in enterprise deployment scenarios, the average daily usage cost per developer is approximately $13, with monthly fees ranging between $150 and $250, while 90% of users spend less than $30 per day. In archived pages prior to April 16, these figures were an average daily cost of $6 and 90% of users spending under $12—indicating that within just a few weeks, Anthropic more than doubled its estimated costs. Ed Zitron, CEO of tech PR firm EZPR, was among the first to highlight this change on social platform X. This adjustment reflects a broader trend of rising costs across the AI sector. With the rise of AI agents, demand for computing power by frontier models has surged sharply, placing immense cost pressure on model providers like Anthropic as well as major cloud service operators. Last week, user dissatisfaction arose after reports suggested Anthropic might have revoked access to Claude Code for Pro subscribers, though the company later clarified it was merely a testing tweak affecting only 2% of new users. Meanwhile, Amol Avasare, Head of Growth at Anthropic, admitted that current subscription plans "were not designed for such intense levels of usage." As user engagement has increased dramatically, the company has implemented adjustments along the way, including weekly limits and tighter restrictions during peak hours, yet existing offerings still struggle to cope with rapidly evolving usage patterns.
