A coalition of twenty-five leading technology and artificial intelligence firms, including Nvidia, Microsoft, Meta, and Palantir, has issued an open letter urging U.S. policymakers to resist proposals that would restrict open-weight AI models. The statement, coordinated in response to mounting political pressure and potential regulatory actions against Chinese developers, emphasizes that an open ecosystem is critical to American technological leadership, cybersecurity, and economic competitiveness. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang highlighted the initiative in a recent public statement, arguing that open models accelerate innovation, strengthen safety protocols, and preserve national sovereignty. The letter arrives amid growing scrutiny of China’s Moonshot AI and its Kimi K3 model, currently recognized as the most capable open-weight large language model.
