Zuckerberg Showcases Muse AI Success and New VR Glasses at Meta Connect

At its annual Meta Connect event held at the Menlo Park headquarters, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, alongside CTO Andrew Bosworth and Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang, unveiled a strategic pivot toward personal artificial intelligence, positioning the company's newly launched Muse agent as the centerpiece of its future ecosystem. Since its September 8 release, Muse has rapidly gained consumer traction, prompting Meta to integrate the AI assistant across nearly all its new hardware and software updates. During the keynote, Meta announced that Muse will now operate on macOS and expand to Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, complemented by a compact, keychain-form factor device slated for holiday release. The AI agent, designed to handle tasks such as scheduling, navigation, and e-commerce transactions, will soon interface with major retail platforms including Walmart, Best Buy, and Dick's Sporting Goods. Wang emphasized the platform's potential during his first Meta keynote, describing the agent as a foundational shift in user interaction. The company's internal branding heavily reflected this focus, with campus-wide installations of Muse's official mascot, Jolly, underscoring the agent's central role in Meta's current development pipeline. Hardware announcements reinforced Meta's renewed emphasis on mixed reality and AI integration. Zuckerberg demonstrated a pair of camera-free smart glasses aimed at expanding accessibility to the company's AI ecosystem, followed by a surprise reveal of a $1,300 VR headset weighing merely 100 grams. The lightweight design drew significant audience reaction, marking a departure from previous iterations that faced ergonomic and market adoption hurdles. The unveiling signals Meta's continued investment in spatial computing, though the company's strategic priorities have undeniably shifted away from the metaverse narrative that dominated earlier years. Financial and market indicators reflect the pivot's early success, with Meta's shares rising approximately 25 percent since Muse's launch. Industry observers note a resurgence of developer and consumer enthusiasm for the company's hardware division, particularly following years of strained optimism surrounding its virtual reality ambitions. Nevertheless, challenges remain. Meta's video-capable glasses continue to navigate privacy scrutiny, and the AI agent sector remains highly competitive as tech giants race to establish dominant personal assistant platforms. Despite these headwinds, the cohesive integration of software, retail partnerships, and lightweight hardware suggests Meta is consolidating its position in the emerging AI agent market. As Zuckerberg concluded the keynote, the event's tone reflected a measured confidence, emphasizing execution over vision and positioning Muse as a catalyst for Meta's next growth phase.
