Google Meet Launches AI-Powered Virtual Makeup Filters for Smoother Video Calls

Google Meet has introduced a new AI-powered makeup filter designed for users who want a polished look without applying real makeup before a video call. The feature aims to help Google Meet keep pace with competitors like Microsoft Teams and Zoom, which already offer similar virtual beauty enhancements. The update provides 12 different makeup styles to choose from, accessible through the “Appearance” section under “Portrait touch-up”—a feature first launched in 2023 that includes tools like complexion smoothing, under-eye brightening, and eye whitening. With this addition, users can now enhance their appearance with virtual lipstick, blush, eyeshadow, and more. What sets the new filter apart is its ability to stay precisely in place as users move their heads or change positions during a call. For example, if someone takes a sip of coffee, the makeup effect remains on their face instead of shifting to the cup, creating a more natural and realistic appearance. The feature is disabled by default and can be turned on either before joining a meeting or during a call. Once a user selects a makeup style, Google Meet will remember their preference and automatically apply it in future meetings, offering a seamless experience. The AI-powered makeup filter began rolling out on October 8 and is available on both mobile and web platforms. As part of Google’s ongoing efforts to enhance the video meeting experience, this update reflects a growing trend of using artificial intelligence to improve personal presentation in virtual settings.
