Arista Networks Launches Next-Gen 800G R4 Series for Scalable AI and Data Center Networking

Arista Networks has unveiled its next-generation R4 Series portfolio of routers designed for data centers and AI infrastructure, marking a significant advancement in high-speed networking for AI workloads. The new 800G R4 series enables scalable, high-performance routing and AI processing across cloud, data center, and backbone networks. The platform introduces 3.2 Tbps HyperPorts, delivering unprecedented capacity for distributed AI workloads and multiplanar networking, helping customers reduce total cost of ownership while improving AI job completion times and power efficiency. The R4 Series includes both fixed and modular systems, supporting flexible, two-tier leaf-and-spine architectures that optimize network performance. All platforms run Arista EOS, a powerful extensible operating system, and deliver advanced Layer 3 features such as EVPN, VXLAN, MPLS, and SR/SRv6. The systems also feature hierarchical deep packet buffering to ensure predictable latency and protection against packet loss during congestion. Arista’s leadership in the 800GbE market is underscored by data from Crehan Research, which reported that Arista led in branded market share for both 800GbE and overall data center Ethernet switching in Q2 2025. With the 800GbE market projected to grow at a five-year average annual rate of 90% driven by AI, storage, and compute demands, Arista’s new offerings are strategically positioned to meet rising infrastructure needs. The 7800R4 modular chassis sets a new standard in port density and flexibility, available in 4, 8, 12, and 16-slot configurations. It supports AI-optimized and high-scale routing linecards, making it ideal for petabit-scale deployments in cloud giants, neoclouds, service providers, and enterprises. The 7280R4, a compact fixed-form factor, complements the 7800R4, offering customers the ability to scale efficiently based on port speeds, density, space, and architectural requirements. Security is built into every layer of the new portfolio. Both the 7800R4 and 7280R4 platforms support wire-speed encryption on every port through TunnelSec, offering MACsec, IPsec, and VXLANsec options to protect data in transit from interception. Arista also introduced the 7020R4 Ethernet leaf switches, designed for high-speed server connectivity in AI and data center environments. These switches support 10GbE and 25GbE copper or SFP ports, with 100GbE uplinks and per-port wire-speed encryption, making them well-suited for complex, heterogeneous workloads and high-end workstations. The new R4 Series is now available, with detailed information available in a blog by Martin Hull, VP and General Manager of Cloud and AI Platforms, and Brendan Gibbs, Area VP of Product Line Management. A webinar on November 20 is also scheduled for further insights. Arista Networks continues to lead in cloud and AI networking, delivering solutions that combine performance, automation, security, and scalability. For more information, visit www.arista.com.
