Bezos's Mysterious Startup Project Prometheus Aims to Raise $10 Billion
According to multiple sources, Project Prometheus, an AI startup co-founded by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, is in the midst of raising approximately $10 billion at a post-money valuation of around $38 billion. The financing round remains ongoing, with final terms yet to be determined. This marks the company's first funding since its establishment last year, which saw it secure $6.2 billion. Founded in November of last year, Project Prometheus focuses on "physical AI," developing artificial intelligence systems capable of interacting with real-world industrial processes rather than traditional digital-only tasks like chatbots. Its application scenarios span manufacturing, aerospace, semiconductor production, and other sectors. Co-founder and joint CEO Vik Bajaj previously worked at Google X, Alphabet’s moonshot factory, and served as an adjunct professor at Stanford University School of Medicine. While maintaining low public visibility overall, the company has begun expanding visibly. Public records indicate that Project Prometheus is leasing significant office space in San Francisco and recruiting talent from institutions such as OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and xAI. Current team size ranges between 50 and 200 employees. Additionally, reports suggest Bezos is engaging investors from the Middle East and Southeast Asia to raise up to $100 billion in investment funds aimed at acquiring or investing in companies poised to benefit from Project Prometheus' technologies. However, competition within this sector intensifies rapidly. Project Prometheus faces established players like Anthropic alongside emerging rivals such as Periodic Labs, founded by former OpenAI Vice President of Research William Fedus. Given the industry's heavy reliance on both advanced technology and top-tier human capital, whether this new venture can carve out a successful niche remains uncertain.
