Firebird Launches CIS Region’s Largest AI Factory in Armenia
Firebird, an emerging AI cloud infrastructure provider, officially inaugurated the Commonwealth of Independent States largest artificial intelligence computing facility in Hrazdan, Armenia. The launch establishes a dedicated regional hub designed to train, fine-tune, and deploy enterprise-grade AI models while advancing local computational sovereignty. The ceremony was attended by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister Zhaslan Madiyev, and U.S. Chargé d Affaires a.i. David Allen, underscoring the project’s geopolitical and economic significance. The facility represents a rapid execution of ambitious infrastructure targets, having reached operational status in just over six months. Powered by Dell Technologies PowerEdge servers and NVIDIA accelerated computing architectures, the site serves as the initial node in Firebird broader strategy to deploy a two-gigawatt AI infrastructure roadmap spanning Armenia, Kazakhstan, and additional frontier markets. Backed by recent capital injections from CoreWeave and NVIDIA, Firebird intends to scale the facility to more than 70,000 NVIDIA Rubin and Blackwell graphics processing units and 300 megawatts of capacity by late 2027. To manage the intense thermal and electrical demands of large-scale model training, the campus utilizes a fully codesigned engineering approach. Schneider Electric delivered the critical power backbone, including medium- and low-voltage switchgear and uninterruptible power supply systems, enabling compute and infrastructure deployment to proceed on synchronized schedules. Thermal management is handled by Vertiv, which integrated a chilled-water architecture with TrimCooler technology and centralized resource coordination to maintain operational efficiency as workloads shift. The underlying NVIDIA Data Center System Platform further optimizes power distribution and networking, allowing the facility to operate up to forty percent more graphics processing units within the existing footprint while maximizing energy efficiency. Early commercial traction has already emerged, with AI-native enterprise Perplexity securing infrastructure access for its agent-based answer engine platform. The facility architecture prioritizes localized development, granting domestic developers, academic institutions, and public agencies direct access to high-performance compute for language-specific and industry-targeted model refinement. By establishing scalable AI capacity within the region, Firebird aims to position Armenia as a strategic nexus for global artificial intelligence development while accelerating domestic innovation across the technology and public sectors. The project reinforces the broader industry transition toward sovereign AI infrastructure, enabling enterprises and governments to retain data locality while accessing frontier-grade computational resources.
